FRC Controls for Everyone: A Mentor’s Guide to Teaching (and Learning) FRC Controls

Presentation, Sustaining a Team (Intermediate), Technical

Presenter: Eugene Fang (604)

Key Takeaway: Learn and teach FRC controls with just high school math, made scalable through simulation.

Whether you’re a mentor trying to wrap your head around controls or looking for a better way to teach your students, this session is for you. We’ll walk through a workshop-style example that assumes coding knowledge, but no prior controls background. We’ll cover core FRC control concepts that stays within the bounds of high school math, while focusing on practical techniques to achieve performant robot behavior. You’ll also see how simulation can make controls engaging, accessible, and scalable.
